THE ARTISTS OF WOLIN
The contemporary artists from Wolin and community has been inspired by the archeological discoveries and unusual richness of the historical past of Wolin. Famous little figure of pagan god  named Światowit  made from wood is one of the inspirations. In the lasts years more people have been realized its own artistic inclinations thanks to the little artifacts that are copies of the things that had been used by Wolin’s inhabitants in the past.

Paweł Żelewski (pic. 1) works in antler, bone, wood and leather. He made knifes (pic. 34-38), pots (pic. 16), elements of clothes (pic. 30 & 31) and salt-pots (pic. 4 & 6-11 & 13-15 & 29) of the materials known by our ancestors. He covers his artifacts with sophisticated ornaments inspired by the Scandinavian, Slavonic, Irish, Russian - Varegian arts and from the Vendel period, known from the pictogram’s stones from Gotland Island (pic. 33). Artist prefers the old Scandinavians styles like Borre (pic. 2 & 24 & 30), Mammen (pic. 4 & 8 & 17) and Ringerike. These styles are just the base of useful motives.

Jerzy Budziszewski (pic. 40 & 41), the second one lives in a very little village near Wolin. He become to be fond of the old art during the long Wolin’s archeological excavations. He discovered some finds from the ground and become to copy them. His special passion is making the combs (pic. 42-45) made of bone and antler, looked just like  the old original ones from Slavonic and Scandinavian regions. The style of a decoration proceeds from the archeological sources.
